A homeowner in Lucas, TX called us because their downstairs unit wasn't cooling the way it should. When our technician arrived, the compressor wasn't drawing the right amount of current — a sign something wasn't right. The system pressures also confirmed that the compressor wasn't building proper refrigerant compression.
The technician checked the compressor windings and found them to be in good condition. After starting the unit, the compressor ran as expected. The system was low on refrigerant, so 1.5 pounds of Freon were added to bring it back to the proper charge.
Lovejoy HVAC will continue to monitor this system. If the unit stops cooling again, further diagnostics may be needed to determine whether there is an underlying refrigerant leak or a developing compressor issue. Catching these problems early helps avoid more costly repairs down the road.
